Fresh off the high from her most recent single “Superfan”, South-East London based singer and songwriter Summer Banton teases the upcoming single “Like U”, exclusively available to preview – for your ears only. Set for release on Thursday 28th November 2024, Summer Banton will be releasing the brand-new track, with a petty but empowering message perfect for that unserious situationship. The single is gifted to listeners with strong nostalgic 90’s sounds and promo visuals which include an infectious dance routine that will get viewers on their feet. Effortlessly staying true to her late 90s and early 2000s influences, “Like U” embodies Summer’s distinctive flavour, her notably enchanting aesthetic and ability to create an empowering track for the ladies.
Speaking on the making of the new single, Summer says, ʻLike U was such a fun song to make, me and Kierran started talking about my love life at the time and decided that the song we we’re about to make was going to be a petty one! It was only my second time meeting Kierran but the vibe came so naturally. We made the perfect nostalgic song, paying homage to one of our favourite’s Aaliyah, and managed to deliver some slightly toxic relationship advice!’
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse, and Lauryn Hill to name a few, Summerʼs unique artistry effortlessly creates room for her to weave together classic R&B sounds with a modern twist. Her take on music allows her to embrace her own unique sonic style, a distinctive sound which also has imprints of the UKʼs contemporary music scene. Describing her sound as “a fusion of contemporary R&B, with a nostalgic touch of 90s/2000s”, Summer highlights, “my music is R&B essence inspired by the nostalgic Soul & R&B I grew up on, along with the new genres I listen to today.” Her musical journey has been heavily influenced by her upbringing; growing up in a household steeped in music, her roots trace back to legendary reggae artist Maxi Priest, and the strong rap presence of her cousin Dirtbike LB, one half of renowned UK duo, D-Block Europe.
Summer continues to turn heads and hone authentic support from new fans, her built up community and respected tastemakers across the music and entertainment space. Taking the stage over the last few months to solidify her presence and love for sharing her craft, Summer has performed on platforms including BBC Introducing Live at The Lexington, was the supporting act for Cameroonian songstress Libiancaʼs European tour, special guest for North London singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Natanya at The Grace, and for The Blueʼs Project at historic The Jazz Café. Freshly announced as a supporting act for Äyanna as part of Cloud X and NewWave Magazine BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL live residency, weʼre thrilled to continue to watch Summer grow as a rising star.
