AYRA STARR RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘COMMAS’

GRAMMY-nominated music superstar with over 1 billion global streams marks her first release of 2024

2 February 2024: GRAMMY-nominated global Afrobeats star Ayra Starr releases her new single, ‘Commas’, today on Mavin Records. Listen HERE, and watch the lyric video here.

Over a gentle rhythmic beat with swelling strings; ‘Commas’ exudes breezy confidence with a hint of reflection from the 21-year old who, in just three years, is already growing to become one of the most vital African artists of her generation. She sings: “See my fire burning bright… steady increasing the commas, commas commas commas.”

Commas’ arrives hot on the heels of Ayra Starr’s first GRAMMY nomination for Best African Music Performance for her global smash ‘Rush’, which topped the UK Afrobeats Chart and became her highest charting single on the UK’s Official Singles Charts, peaking at No.24, certifying Silver.

It was one of many career milestones she marked in 2023 which include making the BBC’s Sound of 2024 list and being nominated for MOBO Awards’ Best African Music Act for the second time.

Last year also saw Ayra Starr embark on her sold-out, first headline tour – “21: The World Tour” – which spanned North America, Africa, Australia and Europe. The London show earned praise from The Guardian, which stated: “[The] West African star underlines her superstar potential… despite her age, she has a substantial and varied catalogue, allowing multiple energies and vibes to seamlessly coexist here.”

Along with the single ‘Rhythm & Blues’, ‘Commas’ marks a new chapter for Ayra Starr, who is currently completing her much-anticipated second album, due for release later this year.

Renowned for her anthemic Afrobeats tracks and unapologetic style; the Beninese-Nigerian artist has amassed critical acclaim from tastemaker press, a huge international following and over 1 billion global streams.

Following the release of her defining debut album “19 & Dangerous”; her position as Africa’s hottest rising star has seen Ayra Starr tapped for collaborations with some of music’s biggest names including Wizkid, Stormzy, David Guetta, Kelly Rowland, Tiwa Savage and Leigh-Anne, to name just a few.
