As you may already know, November has been designated Prostate Cancer Awareness Month therefore AFRO*DISIAC LIVE RADIO has teamed up with the lovely people over at Communities Against Cancer to help spread awareness of this terrible but, most importantly, preventable disease.
We were all shocked to learn that 1 in 8 men will develop Prostate Cancer at some point in their lives. What is even more concerning is that the probability of black men developing the disease is a staggering 1 in 4.
With that being said, we have made it our mission to host several “Cancer Talks” here at AFRO HQ. Throughout the month, we will be having some very special guests come down to the studio and bravely share their experiences surrounding Prostate Cancer.
Hopefully through these enlightening conversations, we can all gain a working knowledge of what we should be keeping an eye out for, where we can get checked out and hopefully discover new information on the topic to strengthen us in the fight against the disease.
The first of our Cancer Talks will commence at 11AM on Wednesday the 17th of November with Mr Nigel Goymer. Nigel has kindly offered to chat with us about his experience with diagnosis and will also be sharing some of his favourite tunes. We hope you will join us and spread the word.
In the meantime, here are several links that we have found to be incredibly informative on the matter:
A PSA test is a blood test carried out by your GP, which can help diagnose prostate problems including prostate cancer.
This information has been provided to you by AFRO*DISIAC LIVE RADIO in conjunction with Communities Against Cancer. CAC can support organisations and community groups to raise awareness of cancer with grants of up to £5k.
Hugh is a prostate cancer survivor and he has a really clear message to other men – get tested, it could save your life.
We hope you have a great week!
