The programme
More than just
DJ lessons
Over six weeks you get real time on professional DJ decks, in a working radio studio and behind the microphone — DJing, radio broadcasting, podcasting and digital media, all hands-on.
The point isn’t only learning to mix two records. It’s the confidence to speak into a mic, the skill to plan a show, and a first proper look at how music, radio and media actually work as a career.

This isn’t a classroom — it’s a working radio station. Learners get hands-on experience using professional DJ decks, mixers, microphones and media software, developing practical skills in a real broadcasting environment.
On the decks
- Time on professional DJ equipment every session
- Bring your own music, or dig through the station’s record library
- Choose the order and the tracks in your own set
- Planning a Record yourself and hear the progress week to weekDJ set
In the studio
- Live microphones, mixing desk and studio monitors
- Plan a show, write the links, run the desk
- Record and edit a podcast from scratch
- Interview a guest — and be interviewed yourself

Afro*disiac Live Radio isn’t a training company. We’re a working community radio station, broadcasting 24/7 from Bournemouth, with a record shop and a calendar of live events behind us.
So the people teaching you are the people doing it. And where it’s the right fit, learners may have opportunities to get involved in Afro*disiac Live Radio projects and to perform at our live showcases.

Designed for ages 11–17
The programme is built for young people in this age range, and the sessions are pitched accordingly.
Small groups
Up to six learners per group, so tutors can give each young person proper attention and real time on the equipment.
Tutors are DBS checked
Tutors working with young people are appropriately checked.
Practical learning, not lectures
The emphasis is on hands-on work, confidence and creative development — skills that carry well beyond music.
A certificate on completion
Every young person who completes the workshop receives a certificate recognising what they’ve done.
