YOUR GRANDPARENTS ANNOUNCE
THE DIAL LP
OUT MAY 16, 2025 VIA DRINK SUM WTR
Your Grandparents merge hip-hop, soul, blues, and rock for a formula that is breezy, yet gripping. Today [January 25, 2025,] the Los Angeles trio of Cole Thompson, DaCosta, and Jean Carter announce their upcoming full-length, The Dial, which is out May 16 via new label home drink sum wtr. The record places ruminations about the passage of time over warm, buttery instrumentals. Your Grandparents have also shared the single “White Flags,” which contrasts slippery rap verses and dreamy melodies. “I / I don’t raise white flags no more / I won’t change my mind / I don’t got no space,” __ sings on the hook, over a gold flecked guitar riff peppered with chiming keys. “White Flags” is ruminative, but memorable — a testament to the seamless interplay between Your Grandparents’ members that allows The Dial to hum with life.
As Los Angeles residents, many members of Your Grandparents’ community have been impacted by the recent wildfires that devastated Los Angeles. Your Grandparents would like to urge fans to donate to the Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund, which is an initiative from the Pasadena Community Foundation to rebuild Altadena in phases.
On the track, Your Grandparents shares: “White Flags is best described as a promise to oneself not to give up. The song draws inspiration from everyday struggles we all may face in society like mental health, relationships, and being part of marginalized communities. As creatives living in such times we believe in the importance of creating art that reflects the social, political, and emotional mindsets of the people while also reflecting more personal aspects of ourselves.”
