Amie Blu has shared new single “pretty”, via on 0207 Def Jam
It’s Amie’s second release of the year to follow the hotly-tipped “everything about her”, in anticipation of a new body of work to follow later this year
“pretty” portrays the paranoia and anxiety that can creep into relationships – both with a partner, with other women, and with yourself. Its gently upbeat groove, made in collaboration with Humble the Great and Kamal, instead chooses compassion over resentment for “the type of girl that will make you change / no I won’t blame you / I’d do the same”
Introducing the single, Amie comments:
“pretty’ talks about insecurity and feeling as though I’m competing with another girl / girls. Rather than writing anything hateful I wanted to acknowledge their beauty and kindness, whilst still highlighting my own feelings of self-doubt”
Entering a new, elevated level of her career, Amie Blu is a 21-year-old artist of French heritage, based in South East London. Her work is as tender and introspective as it is straight-talking and frank. It’s a new era and attitude that Amie Blu began with the beguiling “everything about her” – a lilting blend of soul, folk and sophisticated storytelling that reflects the expansion of alternative music in the UK, and lyrically explores the line between self-protection and self-sabotage in modern relationships.
The single quickly went viral, picking up early co-signs from Jessie Reyez, Russ and Bella Hadid
Brutally honest but written without bitterness, “pretty” pinpoints Amie Blu’s musical maturity and her ability, too, to speak directly to the complexities of young people today
Amie has earned her stripes with widespread acclaim for her independent EPs (“crumbs in my bed”, “5 for U”), plus live shows ranging from Mahalia Presents, Meltdown and Glastonbury festivals to a sold-out London date at The Courtyard Theatre last November. Mixing timeless songwriting with an outlook completely of her time, Amie Blu stands out as a special breakout artist for the year ahead
